The Gemeinsames Registerportal der Länder website contains a quick search facility which allows you to search for corporations in all federal states using the companys registration number or trade name. The search engine also offers an advanced option which allows you to search by the state in which the company has its registered office, the companys registration court and the companys address. Basic information, such as trade names, registration numbers, addresses, the date of the companys incorporation and registered capital, is provided free of charge. An up-to-date copy of an entry in the register or access to other documents are charged services. To use these services it is necessary to register and obtain a username and a password. The website also provides access to the homepages of the judiciary in all federal states. All information is provided in German only.

Unternehmensregister commercial register works on a similar principle as Gemeinsames Registerportal der Länder. The websites content is only available in German. Searches can be carried out on companies by their trade name or, in the case of the advanced search, by federal state, registration number or address. No fee is required for accessing information on trade names, registration numbers, legal forms, registered offices, addresses, capital, dates of incorporation and file numbers. To be able to access other information or documents, it is necessary to register in order to obtain a username and a password and to pay the required fee by the means of a bank transfer.
